Here is some alarming health news : the Body of professing North American Christianity has
– lost some sensation in its legs and feet through comfort and ease
– become morbidly obese through material abundance
– become legally blind through lack of Bible study
– become weak its in its arms and hands through lack of prayer
– become legally deaf through pride and lack of repentance
– been dumbed down by man-centered entertainment called “preaching”
– been made outwardly ugly through covetousness, wordliness, scandal and sin
Rather than use inefficient medicines found in the World’s Medicine Cabinet Dr. Discernment would prescribe for the Body of North American Christianity a healthy spiritual diet which should consist of four major components:
“If my people, which are called by my name [PROFESSING CHRISTIANS], shall humble themselves [FIRST COMPONENT OF DIET : HEALTHY DOSE OF HUMILITY], and pray [SECOND COMPONENT : MANY SERVINGS OF PRAYER… THE MORE FERVENT THE BETTER], and seek my face [THIRD COMPONENT : DEPENDING ON GOD FOR ALL THINGS], and turn from their wicked ways [FOURTH COMPONENT : REPENTANCE FROM SIN AND ADOPTING GOD’S WAYS REVEALED IN SCRIPTURE]; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2nd Chronicles 7:14)
If we would see God heal North America then it must start within local Christian churches. We must concentrate on the spiritual things: humility, prayer, repentance and seeking God’s face. Our relationship with Christ is the most important thing. While doing the Lord’s Work let us not forget the Lord of the Work. The power of the Church to do works according to God’s will flows from a right relationship with Christ (as He is revealed in Scriptures).
Christ : “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for WITHOUT ME YE CAN DO NOTHING.” (John 15:5)
When Paul prophesied of perilous times (2nd Timothy chapter 3) did he mention stock market crashes, a Democratic majority in the U.S. Senate, gun control legislation or flooding? No. He prophesied of spiritual conditions within latter day professing Christianity : “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” (2nd Timothy 3:1-5)
Our solution is not a political revolution. It must be a spiritual revival. We need a Prayer and Humility Revolution. All true progress in politics was preceded by spiritual revivals and times of fervent evangelism. If we would see God “loose the bands of wickedness” and “undo the heavy burdens” should it not pass through prayer, fasting/humility and works of righteousness?
“Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward. Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday: And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.” (Isaiah 58:6-14)
